2011 MacPhail Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., pH 3.31, TA 0.53, 616 cases, $40. Released fall 2013. Harvest Brix 23.5º-25.0º. Sourced from Anderson Creek (667, Pommard) and Annahala (777) vineyards. Aged 11 months sur lie in 50% new, 15% 1-year-old, and 25% 2-year-old French oak barrels. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Aromatically alive with scents of black cherry, black raspberry and sweet, toasty oak. Well-sustained mid palate core of black cherry fruit with a robust, intense, sweet (fruit) and sour (acid) toned finish. The tannins are well balanced and the bright acidity adds verve. There is too much tarry, charred oak overlay for my taste. Score: 87. Reviewed May 15, 2014
