2012 Peter Paul Wines Mill Station Road Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., 230 cases, $40. This vineyard is planted in Goldridge soil in a cool area near Atascadero Creek. Dijon 115 clone. 6-day cold soak, natural yeast fermentation in open-top fermenters, aged in 60% new French oak barrels. · Medium reddish purple color in the glass. The appealing aromas of cherry and rose petal are overwhelmed by oak. Moderately concentrated and flavorful core of ripe black cherry, black raspberry and blackberry fruit accented with notes of cola, spice, and imposing oak. A fruit-driven wine with modest tannins and some finishing intensity. Too much oak sheen for my taste and alcoholic heat shows up at the finish. Score: 87. Reviewed July 19, 2014
