2012 Three Sticks “One Sky” Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay

14.8% alc., pH 3.60, TA 0.60, 222 cases, $50. Old Wente selection grown on eastern facing slopes between 900 and 1,100 feet elevation. Soils are red iron volcanic over calcareous strata. Aged 14 months in 50% new French oak. 100% malolactic fermentation. · Moderately golden yellow and clear in the glass. The nose is infused with aromas of lemon, tropical citrus, and buttery oak. The flavors of lemon curd, pear and baked apple are fine, but somewhat weighed down by caramelized oak and alcohol. Slightly creamy on the palate, this wine speaks loudly of “California.” Score: 88.
