2005 Lynmar Russian River Valley Chardonnay 14.2% alc., 4520 cases, $30. Here you have the best of both worlds. 60% of the grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks to retain crisp acidity and 40% is transferred to French oak barrels. 100% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. This is a Russian River blend of grapes from several vineyards. It was paired at lunch with brown clamshell mushroom soup. · This is a very classy Chardonnay with plenty of palate-cleansing acidity, but yet a complex of flavors including tropical fruits and fresh bread with a hint of butter and toast from the MLF and oak. The pairing was magical. (Note: all recipes are on the winery’s website). Reviewed November 26, 2006
