2016 Anaba Westlands Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

13.6% alc., Ph 3.43, TA 0.62, 258 cases, $60. This wine is meant to capture the essence of the West Sonoma Coast. Sourced from Jay Morris, O’Connor and Clary Ranch vineyards located in the West Sebastopol and West Petaluma regions. Clones 777, “828,” Pommard, 667 and Calera. Harvest Brix 23.5º. 100% de-stemmed, aged 20 months in French oak barrels, 40% new. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Generous aromas of dark red and purple fruits, rose, mulch and burnt tobacco. The flavors echo the nose in a mid weight styled wine. A little more extraction and seriousness than the regular Sonoma Coast bottling with a little more mid palate intensity and a more flamboyant finish. Both the tannins and oak are perfectly integrated. Score: 93. Reviewed February 23, 2019 WINERY » ARTICLE »

2014 O’Connor Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.2% alc., pH 3.52, TA 0.66, 414 cases, $35. Harvest Brix 25.2º. Pommard, 115 and 777 clones. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels. Winemaker is Ron Johnson, the vineyard owners’ son-in-law. · Moderately light cherry red color in the glass. Soaring aromas of Bing cherry, spice, toast and tobacco lead to a middleweight styled wine with delicious dark cherry fruit. The charge of fruit is buffered by vibrant acidity and silky tannins. There is definite barrel influence, but it seasons rather than dominates the wine. Very enjoyable, with a smooth texture and an exit bursting with savory oak and black cherry goodness. A real charmer and quintessential Russian River Valley in character at a very reasonable price. Score: 93. Reviewed February 13, 2017 WINERY » ARTICLE »

350 cases. 23% Sexton, 18% Campbell, 18% La Cruz, 11% Rayhill, 6% Thorn Ridge, 6% Jones, 6% Keefer, 6% Harmony Lane, and 6% O’Connor. · Modest reddish-purple color in the glass. Nicely perfumed with aromas of darker fruits with hints of oak spice and rose petals. Dances on the lean side, but still quite flavorful, featuring both red and black berry notes finishing with focus and purpose. Will need more time to integrate the vanilla-infused oak and fully express itself. The characteristic finesse showed by the Akiko’s Cuvée wines is apparent. An impressive effort in this difficult vintage. Drink or hold mid term. Score: 91. Reviewed September 5, 2013 WINERY » ARTICLE »
