2012 Bailiwick Londer Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., pH 3.65, TA 0.61, 175 cases, $38. Clones are 115 and 777. Aged 16 months in French oak barrels, 37% new. · Moderately light cherry red color in the glass. The nose is deeply perfumed with fresh cherry aromas as wine cave and sous bois play in the background. Delicious spiced cherry flavor that attacks with purpose and finishes with uncommon intensity. The wine has impeccable balance with modest tannins and integrated acidity. Additional time in bottle has benefited this wine. It’s cherry season now, so this is an appropriate homage to spring. 2011 Bailiwick Londer Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., pH 3.78, TA 0.57, 200 cases, $38. Clones 115 and 777 from this vineyard located 3.5 miles northwest of Philo. 33% whole cluster. Post-fermentation maceration for several weeks and aging for 17 months in 37% new French oak barrels. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Shy, but pleasant aromas of black cherry and dried rose petals with a whiff of oak and clay. Middleweight flavors of juicy cherries and raspberries caressed by mildly chiseled tannins, finishing with some aromatic persistence. 2010 Couloir Londer Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

13.9% alc., pH 3.72, TA 0.62, 141 cases, $38. This 15-acre vineyard is located in a warm pocket in the “deep end” of the Anderson Valley. Five clones of Pinot Noir. Farmed by Ardzrooni Vineyard Management. 80% Pommard and 20% Dijon clone 115. 40% whole cluster. Native yeast fermentation. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Intense aromas of dark raspberries and blueberries with a hint of pine. Delicious core of mixed dark red berries with hints of dark chocolate and spice. Well-structured and integrated tannins with a welcoming cut of acidity on the finish. This wine really attracts your attention and holds on. A consistently top-performing vineyard. Very good (+). 2010 Panthea Londer Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

14.3% alc., pH 3.70, TA 0.54, 200 cases, $38. Vineyard located in the “deep end” of the Anderson Valley. A blend of Pommard, Swan, Dijon 777 and 115, and A2 clones. 100% de-stemmed, whole berry fermented using wild and Burgundian yeasts after a multi-day cold soak. Aged for up to 22 months in 100% French oak barrels, 40% new. · Moderately light cherry red color in the glass. Nicely perfumed with scents of cherry, wilted rose, bark and cigar box. Light to mid weight flavors of cherry, plum and spice aim to please in a gracious, demurely styled wine, with lacy tannins and some length on the crunchy fruit finish. 2010 Waits-Mast Cellars Londer Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

13.8% alc., 100 cases, $40. Released May 2012. Londer Vineyard is located west of Philo, surrounded by a forest of conifers. Clones 115 and Swan picked at 24º to 25º Brix. 100% de-stemmed, native yeast fermentation, aged 17 months in 30% new French oak barrels. · Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Very aromatic with scents of dark red cherries and berries with a kiss of oak. Full-on mid palate attack of black cherry flavor that is sappy and showy, sporting young, firm tannins and a remarkably fruit-filled finish that goes on and on. 2010 Waits-Mast Londer Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

13.8% alc., 100 cases, $40. Released May 2012. This vineyard is just west of Philo off Highway 128. The vineyard is surrounded by forests of conifer and benefits from warm days and foggy mornings. Soils are well-drained sandy loam over clay loam. Clones 115 and Swan. 100% de-stemmed. Aged 17 months in 30% new French oak barrels. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of warm berry tart, spice and forest floor. Relatively full-bodied, with plenty of sappy blackberry and black cherry flavor carrying over to an intense, fruit-driven finish. Effusive and spell binding aromas of fresh black cherries and baking spices. Very tasty core of darker red cherries and berries wrapped in fine-grain, firm tannins. 2009 On Point Christina’s Cuvèe North Coast Pinot Noir

13.9% alc., 306 cases, $34. Released June 16, 2011. Sourced from Londer, Gap’s Crown and Floodgate vineyards. Clones 115, 667, 777, 828 and Swan. Aged 15 months in 27% new French oak barrels. Bottle aged 6 months. · Pleasant perfume of mixed dark berries, plum and oak. Soft and smooth, but rather nondescript, with flavors of blackberries and dark plums and some black cherry showing up on the finish. Gossamer tannins make for easy drinking but the wine lacks focus. 13.6% alc., pH 3.75, 117 cases, $38. 33% whole cluster. · Deeply colored in the glass. Subdued, but pleasing aromas of fresh berries, spice, oak and grilled mushrooms. Noticeably intense and concentrated with a tasty array of red and black fruits underlain with an earthy, savory, sassafras tone. A bit closed, but grows on you over time in the glass. Aged in 30% new French oak barrels. · Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. Alluring aromas of freshly ripened black cherries and compost. Soft and silky on the palate with a profusion of red and black fruits backed by ripe, firm tannins and bright acidity. Nicely balanced. Tremendous potential but needs a few more years in the cellar. Aged in 30% new French oak barrels. · Aromas of black cherries with a minty green note. A fruit-driven wine of moderate richness leaving a little warmth in its wake. 15.5% alc., 432 cases, $46. · This one surprised me as I was skeptical when I looked at the octane level. Given adequate air time, the aromatics open beautifully showing dark fruits, mocha and a hint of earth.
