Sweeney Canyon Vineyard
A small, family owned vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills planted by the Marks family beginning in 1980 and farmed by them continuously ever since. The vineyard was originally planted to 18.5 acres of Wente clone Chardonnay. Small amounts of Chardonnay have been made by the owners since 2000, but most of the grapes have been sold to notable local wineries. In 2002, an acre of Chardonnay was grafted to Pinot Noir clone 777 and in 2006, 75 cases of Pinot Noir were produced. In 2007, 4 acres of Chardonnay were grafted to Dijon clone 115. The vines have not been irrigated for 20 years. This is a rare opportunity to obtain Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from vines that were planted and tended by the Marks family for over 28 years. Kristi Marks is the winemaker and Chris Marks is the vineyard manager. The wines are available at Central Coast and Southern California restaurants and wine retailers. 805-736-7466. |
