Charles Krug Winery
Owned and operated by the Peter Mondavi Family for three generations, Charles Krug was the first winery in Napa Valley (established in 1861). The family farms 850 acres of estate land with organically and sustainably. The winery focuses on Bordeaux blends, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Pinot Noir. The winemaker, David Galzignato, is of Italian heritage who graduated from University of Calfornia at Davis with majors in enology and viticulture and Italian. He trained in Italy and at Columbia Crest in Washington and Kendall Jackson in California. He joined Charles Krug in 2003, pausing for a time in 2006 to pursue small-lot winemaking at Paraduxx and Lewis Cellars. He revamped the portfolio at Charles Krug and the winery invested in new equipment and renovation of all of its vineyards. A Pinot Noir is produced from Carneros sources along with a Limited Release selection from the Dr. Maurice Galante Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The Limited Release selections are only available through the tasting room and a few restaurants. The tasting room is open daily at 2800 Main Street (Hwy 29) in St. Helena. The wines are sold online. |
