Domaine Marc Roy
A tiny estate of nine acres of Pinot Noir, including Clos Prieur, and one acre of Chardonnay in Gevrey Chambertain producing about 1,800 cases annually. The domaine has been in the family for three generations and current owner and winemaker Marc Roy works with daughter Alexandrine who has been the winemaker here since 2003. Attentive approach to tended vines is evident at this Domaine with carefully thinning of leaf cover and green harvesting to limit yields. All the triage is done in the vineyards rather than at the cellar, bringing only pristine fruit back to the cellar. All the fruit is 100% de-stemmed for reds, daily pigeage, fermentations in stainless steel, and a delicate application of new oak with an elevage of 12 monthjs. The reds are incredibly soft, silky, supple and transparent. The emphasis is on elegance and equilibrium above power, making these wines approachable in their youth, yet capable of long-term aging.
