Old World Winery
Darek Trowbridge learned winemaking and winegrowing from his grandfather, Lino Martinelli. He worked the vineyards from his late teens. After obtaining a degree in viticulture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo he worked at Martinelli Vineyards and Winery for his uncle, Lee Martinelli. Later, he obtained a Masters Degree from Fresno State in enology. Old World Winery was founded in 1998 while Derek was working as vineyard manager at Everett Ridge Winery. He is a proponent of biodynamic and organic farming. The winery is now located on the site where Williams Selyem was founded on River Road in Fulton in the Russian River Valley. Trowbridge is a "natural" wine proponent, using natural yeasts, no additives and minimal sulfur additions. Several varietals are produced including a Pinot Noir from Sterling Family Vineyard. The wines are sold through the winery's online store. The tasting room on River Road in Fulton is open daily by appointment (707-490-6696). The wines are sold through the website online store and via a mailing list. |
