Ritual

Wines from Chile's Casablanca Valley produced by partners Agustin Huneeus and renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs. A Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are offered from the estate vineyard.

50 acres of Pinot Noir are planted in the coolest sections of the Casablanca Valley estate. Dijon clones 115 and 777 are planted at high density of 2,000 vines per acre. The loamy soils have good drainage. The estate enjoys morning fog several times a week and is cooled in the afternoon by winds from the Pacific Ocean.

2015 Ritual Casablanca Valley Chile Chardonnay

14.0% alc., $19.99, screwcap. Grapes hand-harvested at night, whole cluster pressed. A portion of fruit undergoes whole cluster fermentation in concrete eggs, and the rest ferments in oak barrels. Aged in 20% 400 liter barrels, 20% concrete eggs, and 60% neutral oak barrels with regular lees stirring. · Delicate golden yellow color and clear in the glass. The scents of lemon-lime, pear and oak lead to a light and easy-going wine infused with lemon, apple, pear and green herb flavors. Clean and brisk, with a citrus-infused finish. Score: 88. 2015 Ritual Casablanca Valley Chile Pinot Noir

14.0% alc., $19.99, screwcap. A selection of vineyard lots and barrels from the coolest sections of the Casablanca Valley Estate property. Grapes hand harvested in cool morning, double-sorted. A portion of the grapes undergo whole cluster fermentation. Fermented with wild yeast. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 30% new. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. The nose offers a marriage of black cherry fruit and oak-driven aromas of espresso and tobacco. Light to mid weight in style, featuring dark stone and purple berry fruit flavors with an undercurrent of oak. Refined and somewhat elegant, with balanced dry tannins, a silky texture and a finish replete with black cherry fruit. A forward drinking wine with admirable finesse. Score: 88. 2014 Ritual Monster Casablanca Valley Chile Pinot Noir

Unlabeled sample. · Dark reddish purple color in the glass. The nose only hints at dark fruit, offering primarily aromas of earthy flora and coffee-toned oak. Intensely flavored and quite sappy, featuring flavors of blackberry and black currant augmented with complimentary oak seasoning.
