This label is a new project in 2018 that followed Lee's trip to Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Grenache is considered the Pinot Noir of the Rhone. but It has thicker skins and thrives in riper climates than Pinot Noir. Vintners in Chateauneuf ferment and age Grenache in concrete to preserve its fresh fruit.

Lee translated the concept to Root & Rubble, harvesting a thicker-skinned clone of Pinot Noir from Barbieri Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. It was fermented and aged in concrete. It is considered a "naked" Pinot Noir
