2015 Rhys Bearwallow Vineyard Anderson Valley Chardonnay

12.5% alc., $50 (500 ml). · Moderate golden yellow color in the glass. A taut, acid-driven wine, leading off with aromas of apple, slate, lemon creme and a hint of spice. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit and kiwi are lifted by vivacious acidity, leading to a bright finish that offers both refreshing lift and satisfying fruit richness. Score: 92. 2015 Rivers-Marie Bearwallow Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

14.2% alc., 120 cases, $60. Located in the deep end of the Anderson Valley and sourced from blocks planted by owner Kevin Harvey of Rhys Vineyards. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. This wine is quite tight both on the nose and palate and reveals the most tannin of the 2015 wines tasted here. There is some tasteful purple and black fruit trying to emerge, but the oak and tannin dominate. Considerably better when tasted two days later from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, with a more engaging perfume and better tannin integration and harmony. Score this one largely on future potential. Score: 91. Reviewed March 29, 2017 WINERY » ARTICLE »

2011 Rhys Vineyards Bearwallow Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

Made from existing plantings of Dijon and Pommard clones. 8’ x 5’ spacing, planted 12 years ago. Almost no new oak, very little whole cluster. · Fragrant with fresh berry compote and vanilla. Juicy acidity elevates the dark berry, plum and pomegranate flavors which end with noticeable presence on a focused, tight and gritty finish. Very good. Reviewed April 13, 2013 WINERY » ARTICLE »

2010 Rhys Bearwallow Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

13.4% alc., $59. · Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. Delicate aromas of cherry, spiced red plum and rose petals. Lighter in weight with redder fruits than the 2009 vintage, but offering fresher and juicier strawberry and cherry flavors. Mild, soft tannins and good vibrancy, this wine has more tension and appeal than the previous vintage. Score: 89. Reviewed September 5, 2013 WINERY » ARTICLE »

2009 Rhys Bearwallow Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

13.9% alc., $59. 6.56 acres planted to 115, 777 and Pommard clones. Walfey-Bearwallow series soils consisting of 6 to 24 inches of topsoil over deep fractured shale. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Satisfying fruity aromas including an array of dark berries and plum with a hint of vanilla. The core of dark berries and black plum flavors are saturating and bring the mid palate to attention. Creamy soft in the mouth with a generous fruit-driven finish. Riper fruit than in 2010. Score: 88. Reviewed September 5, 2013 WINERY » ARTICLE »
