River's Edge Winery
Founded in 1998, this winery specializes in Pinot Noir sourced primarily from its two estate vineyard, Black Oak and Elkton, located in the northern most part of the Umpqua Valley of Oregon. Ken and Mary Thomason were the original owners of Black Oak Vineyard and Elkton Vineyard, and planted the vineyards in 1972. They sold the vineyards to Mike and Vonnie Landt in 1996. In 2000, a winery was built on the western edge of the town of Elkton and the first vintage was crushed that fall. The first few years, the Landts were assisted by French-trained winemaker, John Eliassen, who now owns La Bete Wines. For several years, the Landts lived in the Midwest and commuted during harvest. John and Bonnie Bradley took care of the facility and vineyards. The Bradleys now have their own winery, Bradley Vineyards. In 2005, the Landts quit their day jobs and moved full time to Elkton. River's Edge now sources grapes also from Bradley Vineyard. Vineyard designated Pinot Noirs are produced from Black Oak and Elkton vineyards. An Umpqua Valley blend and a Barrel Select Pinot Noir are also offered. Prices are very reasonable. The wines are sold by e-mail. |
