Noted Food Network personality and restauranteur, Guy Fieri (“FEE-eddy”), who lives in Santa Rosa, California, has a wine label, Hunt & Ryde, named for his two sons, Hunter and Ryder. He plans to release three varietals including a Pinot Noir from the estate Hunt & Ryde Vineyard in the Russian River Valley and will add a sparkling Rosé. Fieri’s partner on the project is respected Russian River Valley vintner Guy Davis of Davis Family Wines.

Fieri’s attempt to open a tasting room near his estate vineyard adjacent his home was opposed by his Willowside neighbors and was turned down by the planning board.

2014 Hunt & Ryde Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.1% alc., 275 cases, $40. Estate grown by the Fieri family (Guy Fieri is a television personality on the Food Network) and vinified by winemaker Guy Davis of Davis Family Vineyards. Named for brothers Hunter and Ryder. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 35% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. · Dark garnet color in the glass. The fruit in this wine reached full ripeness as is typical of a number of Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs in this vintage. The nose offers an inviting marriage of black cherry fruit and oak aromas with an added spice note. Luscious and plush on the palate in a mid to full bodied style featuring flavors of black cherry, blueberry-pomegranate and dark chocolate. Balanced tannins with modest acidity, finishing with a thrust of black cherry goodness. Score: 92. Reviewed June 4, 2017

14.1% alc., pH 3.48, TA 0.62, 275 cases, $50. Released spring 2017. Label owned by the Fieri family and wine crafted by Guy Davis. Named for brothers Hunter and Ryder Fieri. Family vineyard is farmed organically. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 35% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. The delivers aromas of black cherry, cola, mocha, baking spice, bark and BBQ smoke. Lush, velvety and sleek in the mouth with endless waves of sweet black cherry goodness accented with notes of dark chocolate, char and smoke.
