Chamboulé

Partners Matt Taylor and Francois Morissette produce Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast and Napa Valley vineyards. Both Matt (an American with winemaking experience at Araujo Estate and Reuling Vineyards) and Francois (a Canadian who is a proponent of natural wines) have spent time in Burgundy and believe in crafting wines in the Old World style.

The partner winemakers are funded by Canadian financier Mel Pearl who acquired three sites in Sonoma and Napa counties and have initiated planting as of 2017. In the meantime, they are making wines from purchased grapes.

The Pinot Noirs are made with whole cluster fermentation. Other varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.

The wines are sold through a mailing list.

1996 Louis Jadot Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru

13.5% alc.. $837 (current price) Imported by Kobrand, NY, NY. · Moderately dark garnet color with the slightest bricking of the rim. Aromas of burnt cigar, old leather and old trunk initially. Fruit aromas of black cherry and pomegranate show up later. Intense, mid weight flavors of black cherry, blueberry, pomegranate and herbal oak. Impressive attack and finishing persistence. Welcome underlying acidity but still retaining aggressive tannins that leave a bit of astringency on the finish. Drink up. Score: Good. Reviewed February 4, 2018 ARTICLE »
