Frédéric Esmonin
Frédéric Esmonin is based at ‘Les Estournelles’ in Gevrey-Chambertin. Frédéric's father, André, was the highly respected Gevrey grower who produced the grand cru Mazis-Chambertin for the Hospice de Beaune. Frédéric owns 17.5 acres including holdings of Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Clos-Prieur’ and the 1er Cru ‘Estournelles and Lavaux-St-Jacques’, as well as Mazis-Chambertin, and Ruchottes-Chambertin. His Clos de Vougeot and Chambertin are negociant wines. Judicious use of oak, excellent concentration at every level and early bottling maintaining freshness make Esmonin's wines very attractive and finely structured red Burgundies. They are among the first Burgundies from each vintage to arrive on our shores and they are very reasonably priced considering the pedigree of the vineyard sources. The Mazis-Chambertin is as good as it gets. Articles About Frédéric EsmoninReviewed Wines2005 Frédéric Esmonin Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits 12.5% alc., $18. Atherton Wine Imports, San Jose, CA. · Scents of plum, black cherry, decay and citrus carry through to the long and chewy finish. The tannins are nicely integrated and the whole package is well balanced. Straightforward and likeable. Reviewed October 14, 2007 ARTICLE »
