A large producer (crushing 35,000 tons of grapes a year) founded in 1990. The Blackstone California Merlot is the largest selling domestic red wine in the United States. Both a California Pinot Noir and a Sonoma Reserve Pinot Noir are produced.
The main winery's tasting room in Gonzales is located at 850 South Alta Street and is open daily. There is a second winery and tasting room in Kenwood, Sonoma Valley at 8450 Sonoma Highway. The wines are currently sold at the winery and through extensive retail distribution.
2007 Blackstone California Pinot Noir
13.5% alc., $9. · Well-oaked, earth-dusted black cherry fruit with some herbs and stem evident and a definite citrus strike to the finish. Pleasant and drinkable. A Reserve bottling is also available ($19). Reviewed November 17, 2008 ARTICLE »
