2016 Pike Road Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

13.5% alc., pH 3.60, TA 0.54, 8,163 cases, $20. screw cap. Offered by the Elk Cove family who have farmed in Oregon for five generations. This wine is produced from non-estate, family-owned vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Produced with the same care as Elk Cove Estate wines - hand-harvested grapes, sorted into small fermenters, aged 10 months in French oak barrels and bottled with state of the art equipment at the Elk Cove Estate. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. Shy, but pleasant aromas of blackberry and cassis. Mid weight plus in extraction, featuring flavors that echo the aromas. The wine packs a lot of fruit, but lacks a bit of zip and zing. The velvety texture is appealing, but the finish is brief. A fruit lovers style. Score: 88. Reviewed January 16, 2019 ARTICLE »

2014 Pike Road Willamette Valley Oregon Pinot Noir

13.5% alc., 9,000 cases, $19, screwcap. Inaugural release from the Campbell family at Elk Cove Vineyards, founded in 1974. Pike Road is an actual road that winds through the lowlands of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA and out to the forests of the Oregon Coast Range. For the Campbell family, it symbolizes the spirit of farming in Oregon. A mix of younger and older estate vineyards, plus smaller lots from long term relationships with area family farms. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of black cherry, and considerable oak-driven scents of spice and vanilla. More oak restraint on the palate, with mid weight flavors of black cherry and plum. Shallow on the attack and finish. Score: 85. Reviewed August 29, 2016 ARTICLE »
