2014 Austerity Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., $15.70. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. I struggled to find much nose in this wine at all even over time in the glass, that offered only subtle whiffs of purple berry, smoky oak and ash. Much better on the palate, with a mid weight charge of black cherry and raspberry fruit flavors, combined with noticeable smoky oak in the background, displaying modest tannins, and donating some intensity on the fruit-driven and mildly astringent finish. Score: 84. Reviewed January 16, 2017
